The Descendants is an upcoming film directed by Alexander Payne. The film stars George Clooney, Judy Greer, Matthew Lillard and Shailene Woodley and is planned for release in the United States on December 16, 2011.With his wife Elizabeth on life support after a boating accident, Hawaiian land baron Matt King (Clooney), takes his daughters on a trip from Oahu to Kauai to confront the young real estate broker (Lillard) who was having an affair with Elizabeth before her misfortune.
A land baron tries to re-connect with his two daughters after his wife slips into a coma following a boating accident. He later has to reconcile his lifestyle with his desires when he discovers that his wife had been having an affair prior to the accident. Based on the novel by Kaui Hart Hemmings.The film began its on-location shoot in Hawaii on March 15, 2010. Post-production began on June 14, and continued into February 2011. The film will be released on December 16, 2011.
The Descendents are an American punk rock band from Hermosa Beach, California. As of 2010, they have released six studio albums, three live albums, three compilation albums and three EPs. The Descendents broke up and reformed several times over the years, sometimes with different musicians. The band’s current lineup is singer Milo Aukerman, guitarist Stephen Egerton, bassist Karl Alvarez and drummer Bill Stevenson.
he Descendents were formed in 1978 by guitarist Frank Navetta, bassist Tony Lombardo and drummer Bill Stevenson. Their first release–the only one with this lineup–was the new wavish single “Ride the Wild”/”It’s a Hectic World”.

In 1980 they enlisted Stevenson’s old schoolfriend Milo Aukerman as a singer, and reappeared as a punk band, becoming a major player in the hardcore scene developing in Los Angeles at the time. Their first release with Aukerman, 1981′s Fat EP, was a furious six-minute barrage of angst and humour, featuring such songs as “My Dad Sucks” and the eleven-second “Weinerschnitzel”.
Their debut album the following year, Milo Goes to College, was more melodic than many other hardcore records of the time. They sang about being (and wanting to be) rejected (“I’m Not A Loser”, “I Wanna Be A Bear”, “Parents”), girls (“Hope”, “Myage”, “Marriage”, “Kabuki Girl”), fishing (“Catalina”), and other emotionally sensitive subjects. Songwriting was shared among the band members.
Milo Aukerman really was off to college, embarking on an education that would take him as far as a doctorate in biochemistry, while Bill Stevenson became the drummer for Black Flag. The Descendents did not record again until 1985 with the album I Don’t Want to Grow Up. Much of the song-writing on this LP was much more sensitive than the band’s earlier records, despite being peppered by songs such as “Pervert” and “No FB”.

The band’s lineup changed during the recording of I Don’t Want to Grow Up. Navetta departed to become a fisherman in Oregon, and Lombardo left because touring was incompatible with his career as a postal carrier. Ray Cooper, who had originally replaced Milo as vocalist, then replaced Navetta on guitar upon Milo’s return, and Doug Carrion (formerly of ANTI) replaced Lombardo on bass

This clip goes to a place you don’t expect. At least, that’s what I thought when Paramount passed along this exclusive look at The Devil Inside, opening January 6. The film, directed by William Brent Bell, is the latest entry in horror’s faux documentary/”found footage” sub-genre. Like The Last Exorcism before it, it deals with the supernatural, moreover, exorcists. Out of context, I have no clue where this clip fits into the story…but damn. There is a sweet chemistry between Depardieu and Casadesus but their wry interactions are lost within a rambling frothy non-story that aims squarely for the heart over the head. A score of comic reliefs fill out much of the supporting cast their main function being to comment on Germain’s late blossoming in case we’d missed it. It’s harmless fun for sure but Becker takes that remit as justification not to delve too deeply into the forms of depression and loneliness that can’t be relieved by say a heart-to-heart with a cat or ‘ as is often the case ‘ ‘encore un petit verre de vin blanc!’
A gentle film about an unlikely friendship between the oafish bumbling tradie Germain and the elderly elegant academic Margueritte.
This French film doesn’t so much ladle on the syrup as pressure-hose it towards anything and anyone within the frame. Jean Becker’s twee Gallic two-hander sees odd-jobbing rube Germain (G’rard Depardieu looking like a hay bale in dungarees) receive a series of literary life lessons from little old lady Margueritte (95-year-old Gis’le Casadesus) who he meets while counting pigeons in the park. Bullied by his friends and his mildly daffy mother Germain overcomes his grim lot with a bit of hasty self-education and a newfound love and understanding of the written word. It’s basically ‘Educating Rita’ if Rita were French rotund and Forrest Gump.
