That scene, actually a pair of scenes which form narrative bookends for the film, is also telling. There is an instant, honest – if that is the right word – attraction between this married woman and Brandon, a glance that recalls Nicole Kidman’s speech about mental infidelity and lust Eyes Wide Shut. This woman flashes her wedding ring as if some kind of ward, and nonplussed, Brandon practically chases her up the platform. She escapes, if only narrowly. A tryst with a co-worker in the film further underscores the tug and push of Brandon’s particular condition, there is a hint that something intimate and real might come out of things, and that shuts him down. It must be terribly confusing for her, after they share a warm and charming evening of food and conversation the night before. The movie flits from the woods and incandescent lighting of street level New York clubs with the press of flesh and life, to Brandon’s stark black and white apartment, trapped and isolated on the umpteenth floor of a glass and steel condo. Displacement is further underscored when Brandon listens to a series of desperate answering machine messages which echo in the cold space.

Far away from Blanket Strike prison protest and unconventional biopic essayed in Hunger, Shame feels like a significant step up. This may be a case specific to myself, for as much as I admired the disciplined and virtuoso style filmmaking there, the case of Bobby Sands and his commitment to the IRA and its political status remained walled off, perhaps too mannered. Maybe it was the excessive use of low depth macro lenses in that one, or the first act focus on the prison guard. Either way, I admired it a lot, but there was little to grasp for me beyond the visceral. The malaise that affects Brandon has far more ‘ins’ emotionally. Fassbender gives a naked (figuratively and literally) performance that is all big emoting and subtle stillness in service of making a character that is not realistic per se, but quite interesting as multidimensional embodiment of type. He is the ‘ultimate sex addict, ralph lauren polo ,’ an uber-distillation of the themes and ideas that McQueen wants to get up on screen. He is also utterly magnetic and completely convincing. Still the surprise here is Mulligan, whom as Brandon’s sister it is intimated, in a single line of dialogue, that they had a rough childhood (possibly even incestuous.) This line of dialogue is hardly necessary when the emotional and often physical mess of Sissy is in such plain sight. She fucks Brandon’s boss practically right in front of her brother. She begs and pleads for Brandon’s couch to crash on to get her life together. Her proximity to her family, and desperate need for an intimate or emotional cushion to the world, is the crux of the film. These characters and their inability to find some lasting solution to what ails them is a powerful and fitting interrogation of modern western society through a very specific human lens.

Screen Gems delivered their new drama/thriller flick called “Straw Dogs” into theaters. I watched it, and I thought it was great and intense,delivering one hell of a killing spree. It stars: James Marsden, Kate Bosworth, abercrombie , Alexander Skarsgard, Dominic Purcell, Laz Alonso, Willa Holland,and James Woods.
In the flick,married couple David and Amy Sumne revisit Amy’s small,wild hometown,so David can write a new movie script,and help sell off Amy’s old house. David also felt he could possibly get some inspiration there. However,his motivation would prove to be to save his damn life.
Everyone one seemed pleasant and civil at the outset, five finger shoes ,but as the movie progressed along,you could feel the tensions rise. It was one tiny thing after another as Amy’s old boyfriend Charlie and his raunchy crew worked on their home.
On many occasions they’d take off work early,play noisy music,and barge into the house without knocking or being invited. Finally, they took David on a hunting trip, cheap five fingers shoes ,to only leave him so they could go sexually assault his wife.
However, the last straw,so to speak,came towards the end when a wild incident transpired at their property,resulting in Charlie and the boys to try and kill off Amy and David so they could cover their murdering tracks. Unfortunately they discovered that killing them off wouldn’t be as easy a task as they originally thought,leading to a huge violent conclusion,ending with loads of blood being spilled. It was very suspenseful to see.
It was never boring,and kept me interested the whole entire time. Kate Bosworth offered some attractive scenes in it. True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard played an outstanding bad guy as usual. He played an even worse character than his Eric Northman vampire character on True Blood.
The buildup of the movie was good.They let it build slowly with one thing here and one thing there. Then they let all the rest of the drama unleash right at the end.It was really crazy how the conclusion went down too. I definitely got my money’s worth out of it.
Kate Bosworth has really come far since her 2002 Blue Crush surfer movie days. Although, I did like that movie. James Marsten did well,playing the preppy Hollywood husband type. This movie probably won’t win an Oscar,but it was totally entertaining,especially in the end. That bear trap killing was awesome. If you go see the movie,watch out for that bear trap. I totally recommend this as a good thriller flick. It gets a mighty B grade from me.

In the course of Dr. Powell discussions and many provocations he begins to get the idea that his sick person could be telling the truth. Prot is very mild, polo shirts , polite and knows many details about astronomy that no normal person could possibly know, also all medications they are giving him seem to have no influence on him. In the same time Dr. Powell still feels that there is something else – agonizing and more mundane above all of this alien disguise that has caused this sick person to believe that he is from faraway world K-pax. What a strange name for a planet, don’t You think? It sounds me like new model of jetfighter…
Another charming angle of cine plot and the part of main storyline is the healing effect Prot has on the other mental sick persons in sanitarium. He does huge improve in healing them in just a few weeks than the hospital professors have in many years. The institution sick ones follow him as dogs as though Prot was the one saving for them and they are each one by one are trying to grow into his best soul mate to leave this unpleasant world for dreamed future in world k-pax. Only one patient can be awarded that kind of gift.
Next piece of the plot story tells us how patient Prot is in truth helping specialist Powell pass over his ambitions to make it up and reconnect with his own son which was ignored and forgotten for long time.
